Barton Park features at the Landscape Institute Awards 2016

Barton Park masterplanners, Terence O’Rourke, wins “highly commended” award in the Urban and Masterplanning category at last week’s awards ceremony.

Award-winning planning and design consultancy Terence O'Rourke has won the “highly commended” award in the Urban and Masterplanning category at the 2016 Landscape Institute Awards for its work on Barton Park, Oxford.

Each year, the LI Awards are presented to landscape professionals in recognition of their outstanding work, and to encourage excellence. The Landscape Institute applauds those working on the most innovative projects to have shaped, restored and protected the natural and built environment.

The unique and innovative Barton Park development is promoted by Barton Oxford LLP, a partnership between Grosvenor Developments Ltd and Oxford City Council.

Its comprehensive design includes 885 new homes, a community hub with primary school, a mixed-use local centre, leisure and community facilities and strategic open space.

Barton’s landscape-led plan is fundamental to the successful delivery of a high quality and vibrant place for people to live and work.

Andy Sharpe, Director of Project Management - Strategic Land has commented “The aim at Barton Park is to deliver an exemplar project. This aspiration is now taking shape, with a significant proportion of the primary infrastructure implemented and construction of the first phase of housing starting on site.  As well as providing much needed housing in Oxford, the project will bring about tangible benefits to adjacent communities and create an integrated and sustainable new neighbourhood.

Richard Burton, Design Director at Terence O’Rourke, said: “We are delighted that our masterplanning and landscape design work on Barton Park has been recognised by this award. It is a testament to the consistently high quality and innovative results that our team delivers.
